RALEIGH, N.C. – June 22, 2010 – Today, Kane Realty Corporation announced a bowling and entertainment complex will open this year at North Hills. Triangle entrepreneurs Chris Angel and Alan Fluke have chosen Raleigh, and specifically North Hills, from amongst some of the top-ranking metropolitan areas on the East Coast for Sparians Midtown Bowling Boutique’s first and flagship location.
Sparians will occupy nearly 30,000 square feet on the first floor of Park & Market at North Hills, across from Bruegger’s Bagel Bakery and CAPTRUST Tower. Pre-construction is under way to make this the second-largest retail space in the North Hills expansion.
”Even the name, which in Old English means ‘to spare,’ speaks to the fun and not the competitive side of the sport,” said Fluke, managing partner and COO, who is recommended by U.S. Bowling as an expert for establishing hybrid bowling and entertainment complexes like Sparians. “Although bowling will be the primary attraction, our main focus will be on creating a vibrant atmosphere with appetizing food, unlimited fun and impeccable service.”
Sparians will feature 18 bowling lanes surrounded by plush couches, including two private suites with six lanes to accommodate group functions – from children’s birthday parties to corporate events for up to 350 people.
Sparians’ full-service restaurant will have indoor seating for 170, outdoor seating for 80 – providing the largest outdoor dining area at North Hills – and a bar and lounge to accommodate another 75. Wait staff will pamper guests with upscale food and beverages throughout the center and at the lanes.
State-of-the-art audio-video systems include the largest high-definition projection screens in the Triangle, stretching four bowling lanes wide. In addition to bowling, Sparians will allow Nintendo Wii and Xbox games to be played on large TV’s and projection screens. Lighting, sound and visual effects will create a unique ambiance with glow in the dark lanes, balls and shoes to create an unmatched entertainment experience.
”Part of our challenge is changing the perception that we are a not bowling alley since we will create an environment unlike anything seen in this area,” said Angel, Sparians’ managing partner, CFO and CMO. “Just like Cirque de Soleil transformed the circus industry, Sparians will breathe life into entertainment and bowling to capture new audiences. The focus of Sparians is on casual bowlers, families, and private and corporate events – not traditional leagues.”
Sparians expects to serve nearly 250,000 people annually and hire 100 employees.
